DAS - The beginning

Who'd have thought we could set up a netball club during a global pandemic. Well, we managed it and what a journey it has been.

Back in June 2020, when the netball world was turned upside down by COVID-19 and all we could do was meet in small groups to do fitness sessions, we never had a thought about setting up a club. With requests from some Junior and Senior players we had previously coached, as well as some parents saying we should look to start a club we took the first steps by offering some sessions to see how much interest was out there. So we sourced a venue, no easy task in the worldwide pandemic, and on a small playground in a school in Blandford we began offering small group sessions based around netball footwork patterns and fitness. It was hard not being able to even throw a ball to each other but the girls came back each week with smiles on their faces.
As the weeks progressed and the numbers grew, further discussions were had and we made the decision to start a new club in Dorset.

We formed a committee with some eager dedicated parents and Dorset All Stars Netball Club was formed. COVID-19 made things extremely difficult but we didn't let that get in our way. After numerous phone calls and enquiries, we found a more permanent venue, our current home, QE leisure Centre. The club was taking shape and we were excited about where we were going.

Then in January all came to a halt again when lockdown struck again. We didn't let that dampen our spirits. We were now offering coaching to over 20 girls of various ages, none of whom were prepared to let the virus stop them. The only way was to move online and and so we found an Strength and Agility coach, a Yoga Coach and began offering these as something different to improve the players netball. We even put on a fun family quiz night to get us through.

After a long 2 months, we came back to training and soon we had more girls enquiring every day.
Since March we've grown our club to nearly 50 girls, starting as young as 8 and up to 18 as well as the adults who joined to form their own team.
This has led us to being able to enter two teams in North Dorset Netball League, both of which have taken the league by storm.
Our Juniors have also been entered in Junior leagues across the county with matches due to start from Oct 17th.
